The PA State Museum

The Art of the State Purchase Award Collection, 1969-2017

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the annual juried exhibition Art of the State, This exhibit is showcasing featured works that were purchased by the museum and added to its permanent collections over five decades. This exhibit will remain open from October 20, 2017 through February 18, 2018.

I am honored to be included in this exhibition.  I am also very thankful that the state of Pennsylvania consistently allows artists to submit work for inclusion in the State Museum’s Annual Exhibitions.  This sets an excellent example for other states in the USA, one in which I hope they will follow now and in the future.  Our children should grow up knowing that the arts are important, whether it’s music, painting, sculpture or architecture.

Some New Work in August

I’ve been working on some new paintings.  It’s been pretty exciting.  Kinda changing direction.  Letting the canvas “speak” to me.  Influenced by some dreams and my love of nature and all animals. I’d rather be hanging out by a creek with my dachshund and cat for the most part… That is when I’m not painting.

Any interested collectors? I am delivering paintings that are within a 100 mile radius of my studio, which is located in Oxford, PA.

Thanks for checking out my work!

A John Thornton Film on Assemblage at the Delaware Art Museum

Assemblage Artists Collective at the Delaware Art Museum

In 1985 a few young artists were graduating from the safety and camaraderie of art school to the harsh reality of the outside world. To ease the transition they began to meet once a month to share information about practical and technical issues, current shows, exhibition opportunities, and to view and discuss one another’s work. The roster has changed, but nine in the current group have been in it from the start, and the group remains small enough to sustain intimacy. The first Assemblage exhibition was in 1991, followed by twelve more exhibits to date.

These exhibitions have become an important focus for Assemblage, even while members maintain their own individual careers. All are active participants in the Philadelphia area art community as practicing artists and members of various art organizations. Several members have been teachers in our colleges and universities, local art centers, museums, and PA maximum security prisons. Their art is collected and seen nationally and internationally, in private and public collections, in galleries and museums.
